Our Company

Innovation in Pilates equipment since 1976.

Balanced Body is the world's largest manufacturer of Pilates equipment. The company was the first to substantially update Joseph Pilates' equipment with state-of-the-art engineering, materials and technology. Ken Endelman, the company's founder and owner, has designed hundreds of improvements to Pilates' original equipment, many of which have since become industry standards. Balanced Body has been awarded 24 US patents, and numerous foreign patents for his inventions, with more patents pending. Formerly known as Current Concepts, the company changed its name to Balanced Body in 1999.

Reforming the Reformer

Ken began his career as a designer and craftsman of fine custom furniture - a background apparent in every piece of hand-finished equipment his company makes. In the 1970s, he owned a custom furniture store in Hollywood's fashionable Melrose Avenue district. One day, a client called. She taught Pilates, and wanted Ken to build her a better Reformer. He studied the existing equipment and Joseph Pilates' original designs, and consulted with other instructors to design new features that would facilitate execution of the movements. He applied new materials and technology. The result was the first modern Reformer: smooth, quiet, safe and user-friendly.

Throughout the 1980s, Ken continued to refine the equipment, consulting with longtime associates of Joseph Pilates including Ron Fletcher, Eve Gentry, Carola Trier and Kathy Grant. Never satisfied with the status quo, he continues to improve the equipment. This constant pursuit of enhancements keeps Balanced Body at the forefront of Pilates equipment design. Our equipment is built to last a lifetime.

Strong education partnerships

Balanced Body is proud of its strong partnerships with the world's leading Pilates educators, both classical and contemporary. We actively promote and nurture relationships that bring high-quality education to the fitness industry and the medical community.

With Balanced Body University, we provide access to Pilates instructor training programs as well as continuing education opportunities. We are also a founding sponsor of the Pilates Method Alliance, created to establish educational standards for Pilates professionals.

An advocate for the Pilates community

Balanced Body actively promotes Pilates to the fitness industry, the medical profession and the media. Endelman took the lead in the Pilates trademark dispute, winning the lawsuit that makes the Pilates name generic and freely available to everyone.
