Going Green at Balanced Body
An Attitude, Not an Obligation
At Balanced Body, we want to leave this planet in better shape than we found it. By continuing to create or implement green manufacturing alternatives, we hope to inspire our customers, partners and competitors to do the same.
We are constantly improving our efforts to conduct business in environmentally-friendly ways. Our current efforts include:
Wood products
•Balanced Body uses only sustainable harvested lumber (which means no tropical rainforest deforestation).
•Our specialized cutting and laminating technology maximizes lumber yield, and minimizes waste.
Shipping alternatives
•Large equipment ships in specially designed cardboard crates instead of wood or metal containers.
•Our cardboard pallets are more easily recycled than wood.
Packing materials
•All plastic bags used are made from recyclable materials.
Durability of products
It is unavoidable that foam products (mats and rollers) are made of petroleum products. While they are not environmentally friendly products:
•Our new mats contain no PVC or chloride (and are also latex-free, for those with allergies).
•We have developed long-lasting foam rollers, which reduces waste in our landfills.
•The long-term durability of our wood and metal equipment also ensures less waste.
Our facility
Our office and manufacturing spaces are in a “recycled building” (a former Army depot). At our request, our landlord worked with us to install “green” building features, including:
•52 skylights to dramatically increase the amount of natural light
•Replacement of all light fixtures with new, more energy efficient units.
•77,000 square feet of ceiling insulation added
Air conditioning alternatives
•During our hot summer months in Sacramento, we adjust work shifts to avoid having to install AC in our shop, yet provide a comfortable environment for employees.
•Our shop areas are laid out with large open doors, to maximize fresh air flow during hot weather.
Emissions contained
•Dust control systems and isolation of our woodworking areas minimize employee exposure to dust.
•Our spray booths and air quality control systems are regularly inspected to ensure ongoing quality.
Use your power as a consumer!
As a manufacturer, we push our suppliers to come up with green remedies and alternatives for our product offerings. It is much easier to be green than it was 10-15 years ago!
You can do the same. Ask the companies you buy products from what they are doing for the environment, and choose products from companies that are environmentally sound.
If we all push the companies we buy from to produce natural products using environmentally safe business practices, we can achieve tremendous results!
